Grinding your own coffee beans is the best way to extract their full flavour and allows you to get the right grind consistency for your particular machine.

We review and compare coffee grinders from Baratza, Breville, Sunbeam, Bodum and more to help you find the best coffee grinder for you. We also include all-purpose grinders to see if they're any match for dedicated coffee grinders.

Our coffee grinder buying guide will help you decide which features you need.

We've also partnered with Shop Ethical on this update to show the ratings the Ethical Consumer Group gives to each company.

Shopping links on the CHOICE website

CHOICE is an independent, nonprofit organisation dedicated to helping consumers. Clicking a link will take you to a retailer's website to shop. While we make money if you buy through some retailer links, this doesn't influence any of our rankings. 100% of the money we make goes straight back into our nonprofit mission. We're currently testing this service and will consider providing more shopping links in the future. Tell us what you think.

Coffee grinders can use burrs or blades. We recommend burr-type grinders to produce a more even result. Burr grinders can use either conical (cone-shaped) or flat burrs to crush the coffee beans. In our experience, conical burrs tend to produce better results, but during testing some models with flat burrs have outperformed their conical counterparts.
