Ease of use score
We assess each steam station iron for how easy it is to fill the water tank, move the iron over various fabrics, use the steam function, adjust the temperature and store; as well as how comfortable the iron is to hold and the convenience of the cord and steam hose. The ease of use score accounts for 30% of the overall score.

Variable steam
This allows you to control the amount of steam coming from the iron. You can turn it up when you're trying to get creases out of linen, and turn it down for more sensitive fabrics.
Weight (kg)
The weight of the iron and water tank (when empty) in kilograms. The iron itself needs to be comfortable to pick up and hold.

Cord storage
This is a specially designed heel to wrap the cord around and/or a clip to secure the cord.
Refill tank during ironing
Being able to refill as you go saves you time.
Steam lock
This locks the steam supply trigger in position so you don't have to constantly hold it while ironing. It's handy for vertical ironing or ironing a large piece of fabric.
Automatic shut-off
This is a useful safety feature that cuts off power to the iron after it's been left sitting idle for a while.
Country of origin
Claimed country of origin.
Availability
A Similar model is identical in most aspects except for a few. This means that a majority of its test results are identical so you can reasonably expect to get the same results from the model we tested, but for those aspects which aren't identical, we'll note these as "Not Tested" in the Compare tables.
A Tested model refers to a model that is still current and available in the Australian market. You should be able to order this model through your local retailer, or find it online.
These models can't be found in retailers or online or are no longer manufactured. You may still find them on second-hand websites, or in second-hand dealers. Test methods may change over time, so criteria which can't be directly compared will contain an N/A.
An Identical model is exactly that. Performance characteristics will be identical and the only difference will be something trivial such as colour, which won't have an impact on performance.
These are models we haven't yet tested but that are available.
