I manage the household category of product testing at CHOICE. This includes our household appliance and whitegoods teams, who cover a long list of product areas: cooking appliances such as ovens, cooktops and coffee machines; whitegoods such as fridges, washing machines and dishwashers; cleaning products such as vacuum cleaners, steam mops and surface cleaners; heating and cooling, including air conditioners and electric heaters; babies and kids' items such as cots and strollers; tools for the garden, from lawnmowers to secateurs; and plenty more.
Lately, my personal areas of focus are solar and energy.
I also manage our commercial testing through our commercial arm, Test Research, and I'm involved with standards committees for air conditioners and often liaise with government and industry in areas such as product safety and regulation.
My background is in science and technology. I have a science degree from the University of Sydney and I had a 15-year career in IT before joining CHOICE in 2004. CHOICE lets me exercise both sides of my brain; there's nothing I like better than diving into a stack of technical data and turning it into useful, readable info for you, our members. (Though sampling pizza and scones from our oven testing is pretty nice, too.)
