Dean worked at CHOICE from 2019 to 2022 across a breadth of consumer issues, including making the private health insurance system better, pet food safety regulations, improving the labelling and testing of hand sanitiser during COVID-19, and consumers and the environment.

Previously he worked for national disability rights organisation People with Disability Australia as an advocacy projects manager, as a policy adviser for ACON, as a volunteer consumer health advocate with the Cancer Council NSW and Cancer Voices NSW, and was on the Board of the Tenants Union of NSW.
